Ahakoa te kaupapa, inā ko te ao Māori tērā e whakatairangahia ana, ka tautokona e au kia kitea ai tātou: "He Māori e tū Māori nei i tō tātou ao Māori."
It's important to cover all our different kaupapa from a Māori world view and for us to be able to reclaim our storytelling and highlight the beauty and power of our Māori world. He Kaupapa Waka is a multi sensory exhibition that brings to life the world of waka tauā (war canoes) waka tangata, waka tētēkura (passenger canoes) and the many people that keep these traditions alive.
Curated and photographed by Te Rawhitiroa Bosch , it brings together the works of Master Canoe Carvers Heemi Eruera and Billy Harrison with Legendary Sonic Artist Tiki Taane and Master Pounamu Carver Joel Marsters and Master Weaver Cori Marsters. It is now on continuing display in the Mana Whenua Gallery of New Zealand's national museum: Te Papa Tongarewa.

He Kaupapa Waka
Wereldmuseum, Leiden, Netherlands
After seeing the exhibition on display at Te Papa, the New Zealand Embassy to the Netherlands alongside the Wereldmuseum in Leiden, Netherlands reached out to display the photography from He Kaupapa Waka in an outdoor exhibition on the grounds of the Wereldmuseum where the Māori Waka Tauā "Te Hono ki Aotearoa" is housed in a continuation and deepening of the relationship between the Dutch and Māori peoples. The exhibition will remain there until early 2026.
